Description

Prerequisite(s): IME 2020 or Senior standing.
The study of the principles and practices used to identify and minimize non-value-added activities present in the manufacturing environment. Concepts covered include pull systems, cellular flow, quick change-over, quality at the source, point-of-use storage, 5-S, standardized work, visual control systems, and value of stream mapping. Emphasis is placed on moving from a focus of local optimums to optimizing the entire system. Shingo principles are integrated throughout the course to establish perspective on how to create a sustainable culture of enterprise excellence. Credit(s): 3
